Mega Millions Winner
The Mississippi Lottery Corporation has created its first multimillionaire after a Mega Millions player won $2 million in the latest drawing on Tuesday June 9th.
The lucky ticket was sold in Gautier and matched the main numbers 1, 5, 9, 10 and 23, only missing out on the Mega Ball of 22.
The player had also opted in to the additional Megaplier game, spending an extra $1 for the chance to increase any non-jackpot prizes they won. This decision paid off as the Megaplier number drawn was 2, doubling the fixed payout of $1 million to $2 million.
It is the biggest lottery win to have been seen in Mississippi since tickets went on sale in the state earlier this year.
“We are thrilled to announce our first multi-million-dollar lottery winner in Mississippi in just a little over four months since Mega Millions sales began,” said Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC) President Tom Shaheen.
The player now has 180 days to claim their prize. They have been urged to sign the back of their ticket and keep it safe until they are ready to come forward.
They may also decide to get legal and financial advice before making their claim. Shaheen said: “We’re looking forward to greeting our first Mississippi Lottery millionaire.”
The name of the retailer that sold the winning ticket will be revealed at a later date. It is set to receive a $5,000 bonus.
The Mega Millions jackpot for the next draw is set to be worth $40 million after a single ticket sold in Arizona landed the $414 million top prize on Tuesday.
