Mississippi is the most recent state to introduce a lottery, after a law was passed by the State Legislature in 2018 that paved the way for the creation of the Mississippi Lottery Corporation (MLC). Tickets for scratch-off games went on sale on November 25, 2019.
Magnolia State residents eagerly awaited the launch of the Mega Millions and Powerball draw games on January 30, 2020, braving the cold to line up outside retailers before dawn. In September 2020, the daily Cash 3 draw game debuted, and a five-digit game, Match 5, launched in April 2021, with draws three times per week.
Players have embraced the Lottery and ticket sales have exceeded expectations, boosting the MLC's contribution to state infrastructure and schools.
Mega Millions gives players the chance to win a rolling jackpot that starts at $20 million and keeps increasing until someone hits it. Non-US residents can also participate for their chance to win. There are nine prize tiers, including a $1 million second prize, and draws are held every Tuesday and Friday evening at 10:00 PM CT. This multi-state game has delivered amazing prizes, including the largest jackpot ever won by a single ticket worldwide - $1.537 billion.
Powerball offers a jackpot that starts at $20 million and continues growing with each draw until it's won. Players from all over the world can take part in the draw and win at all nine prize levels, including the top prize and $1 million second prize. Draws are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night at 9:59 PM CT. Its biggest jackpot was $1.58 billion, the highest lottery prize ever, which was shared by three tickets.
Cash 3 draws give MS players at shot at prizes of up to $500 every day, with eight play types offering lots of ways to make a winning match. Choose your wager amount, starting at just $0.50. The draw is held nightly at approximately 9:50 pm CT.
Match 5 is the newest draw game in the Magnolia State and the first with a rolling jackpot. Players have the chance to win great cash prizes on this Mississppi in-state five-digit game, including a top prize that starts at $50,000 and keeps climbing from there. Tickets cost $2 and draws take place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday night at about 10:00 PM CT. For $1 more, the Multiplier add-on will increase any non-jackpot prizes by up to 5 times.
